The second Wednesday each month from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. a free informational class and light lunch is offered to all patients and their families regarding hip and knee replacement surgery. Even if you aren’t signed up for surgery, you are welcome to attend. Our agenda gathers many speakers from various departments within the hospital. Below is a sneak peek at what our busy day includes:

Surgical Services
Anatomy of your hip and knee. Hands-on viewing of the implants used for these procedures; discussion regarding nerve blocks; and discussion and measures taken to help to prevent blood clot formation.

Laboratory
Discussion about the blood and urine tests that are needed before surgery.

Physical therapy
Discussion regarding the exercises you can do before and after surgery; use of walker, use of ice and what to wear while in the hospital.

Occupational Therapy
Discussion and demonstration of several assistive devices that may be needed after surgery. Things you can do now to make your home safe and comfortable after surgery.

Inpatient Stay
Preparing you and your family for what to expect while in the hospital. Items to bring from home to make your hospital stay more comfortable.

Pharmacy
A hospital pharmacist will discuss medication information for before, during and after the hospital stay.

Discharge Planning
