BIGFORK VALLEY NEWS RELEASE

JONES EARNS STUDENT OF YEAR AWARD

Bigfork Valley congratulates Mirella Jones, who was selected as the 2007 Student of the Year for the Rural Radiologic Technology program at Lake Superior College.

Program directors and faculty select students for their outstanding accomplishments during the academic year, according to a letter from Candace Barnack, Vice President of Academic Affairs. "You have demonstrated the skills and qualities that distinguish you from your peers," she wrote. "These accomplishments include leadership, academic achievement and commitment to your program and Lake Superior College."

Jones began her career in radiology with a technical program in Arizona, which she finished after moving to the Twin Cities. She holds diplomas as a practical technologist and X-ray technician through this program.

In 2000 she came to Bigfork where she joined the Imaging Department at Bigfork Valley. This month she will graduate from the Rural Radiologic Technology program. She will be taking her boards later this summer.

"It is very difficult to work full time and go to college," said Brenda Schmitz, imaging director at Bigfork Valley. " Mirella has shown that with dedication and hard work it can be done. I am extremely proud of Mirella as well as my entire department for their accomplishments and dedication to Bigfork Valley Hospital."

"Mirella exemplifies the commitment of our staff to continue their education, improving their skills in their specialties," said Dan Odegaard, CEO of Bigfork Valley. "We congratulate her for earning this outstanding award."
