BIGFORK VALLEY NEWS RELEASE For immediate release Challenge Run attracts competitors region wideLast Saturday dawned chilly but clear as 93 people from all over the region registered to run or walk along the scenic Jingo Lake Road in the Chippewa National Forest. It was the first annual Bigfork Valley Challenge, a 4.5 mile run/3 mile walk sponsored by Bigfork Valley Hospital as a community health and fitness initiative. Overall men’s winner Tim Welker of Grand Rapids crossed the finish first, running the 4.5 miles in 29 minutes 54 seconds. Amy Dettmer of Grand Rapids was the overall women’s winner, crossing the finish in a time of 39 minutes 4 seconds. The 3 mile walk was a chance to enjoy the early fall colors on a winding forest road, some walking as a family. Two were walking as a realization of a goal after major knee surgery. “We are pleased to have been able to offer this opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Chippewa National Forest for both a competitive run and walk, and hope to see all the competitors back next year,” said Dan Odegaard, CEO of Bigfork Valley. Bigfork Valley thanks the U.S. Forest Service and the many volunteers and donors that made this event possible. Next year’s run/walk is planned on September 8. |
