Giving
If you are making a charitable giving decision, please remember Bigfork Valley Hospital.
Whether your gift is large or small, or whether you direct it to a specific purpose or where the need is greatest, it is your gift that adds to the quality of life for elders and patients in this unique rural hospital.
Our endowment fund, administered by the Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation, is building an investment fund so that interest monies are available to purchase items that may not be not available through a hospital budget. Next year, when the new fitness center is opened, much of the fitness equipment that benefits both rehab patients and those community members pursuing their own wellness programs will have been purchased with these monies.
There are many ways to give through the Community Foundation; assets like stocks and land may be left as a legacy or donated directly. A charitable gift annuity will provide an income on the assets to the donor and may come with tax advantages. Of course, monetary donations are always welcome.
These donations contribute to the principal balance which is not spent but used to generate a continuing source of interest revenue. The staff at the Community Foundation are knowledgeable about the many options for contributing and what might be best for your situation. See the box below for contact information.
Giving can also be as simple as dropping off a check or a few dollars at the administration desk. Bigfork Valley Communities and Day Stay programs use the quality of life funds to do everything from taking a day trip to Scenic State Park to hosting a special birthday celebration. Caleb’s Basket is the fund dedicated to the upkeep of the facility’s pets which are an integral part of the unique Eden Alternative lifestyle offered to our residents.
We also appreciate your time! If you have a few hours each week and would like to do something worthwhile, consider becoming a “Pink Lady” - or gentleman! The Bigfork Valley Auxiliary schedules volunteers to help out at the front desk. It might be simply a smile of welcome, or it might be help in returning a resident to his room after an appointment -- there are many small jobs that need doing. Contact Janice Evensen, Auxiliary secretary, at (218) 743-3106 for more information.
The Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation is at 201 NW Fourth St., Grand Rapids, MN 55744 and can be contacted by telephone at (218) 327-8855 or by email at wroy@gracf.org. The web site is
Bear with us
As wonderful as our construction project is, the drawback is that some of our spaces are temporarily limited. When the remodeling project is complete next summer, the business office will be adjacent to the admissions office and more than one patient can be admitted at a time. Because of federal privacy regulations and Medicare information requirements, each patient must be admitted separately. We’re sorry if occasionally this delays our admissions, and we want you to know that when the construction is complete, patients will not have to wait for their turn!
