CEO's Notes

On camera!
Lakeland TV came to our groundbreaking on May 1, so I had a chance to tell the story of Bigfork Valley Hospital.
It’s one that I enjoy telling. Thanks to the vision of our board of directors and community leaders we have been able to move forward on a project which I believe will keep our hospital independent and keep our services at the level of quality we have come to expect
And who are the members of the board of directors? They are elected by you, our hospital district residents. So I should also be thanking each one of you for the support which makes this project possible.
Some of the money has been raised through two sources, a $1 million grant from the Blandin Foundation and a second anticipated $450,000 low interest loan through the U.S. Department of Agriculture which was submitted by North Itasca Electric Cooperative. These organizations realize the importance of having a primary care hospital in our area.
A further $8 million has been authorized by your board of directors to be raised through a revenue bond. This means that, over time, the hospital will pay back the bond through its own revenues, not through any increase in tax levies.
The remaining $1 million is being raised through internal reserves and a capital fundraising campaign which will begin soon. To those who share our excitement with this project and who wish to contribute toward its success, thank you in advance!
Although we are eating, sleeping and even dreaming construction, there have been other things happening on our health care campus in Bigfork. This issue of Wellness Notes will bring you news of a name change for the medical clinic in our building. We’ll tell you about the state-of-the-art mammography machine which will soon be installed here. The 340B discount drug program is a wonderful benefit to our patients, and one which is unique to our pharmacy in this area.
We hope you enjoy this issue of Wellness Notes and visit us also on the Internet at www.bigforkvalley.org.
