Dr. Daniel Courneya
Dr. Courneya graduated with his M.D. from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in 1991. He took an internship and post graduate work at Hennepin Medical Center, and then completed a residency in radiology at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Courneya is board certified and licensed to practice in Texas, North Carolina, Florida and Minnesota.
Although Dr. Courneya does read images and mammograms for Bigfork Valley, diagnostic and interventional radiology has become much more. He provides pain management injections, and does procedures for patients like biopsies and drainages.
Currently Dr. Courneya is developing a program to add nuclear medicine to inhouse services. Nuclear medicine, he explained, uses tracers in the blood to examine blood flows at rest and during exercise to see whether the circulatory system has enough flow to meet the stress of exercise. It’s an important tool for primary care and internal medicine doctors, surgeons and cardiologists to explore the best choices for treatment, medication or next steps.
